What are Book Credits?
Where do they come from? Book Credits can come from several different sources. They can be the excess of Financial Aid like FAFSA, student loans, or scholarships. This overage is created after your tuition and fees are paid. The amounts are then communicated to the book store so that student don't have to pay out of pocket for their course materials.
When can I use them? Each semester has a timeline as to when Book Credits are available to use at the bookstore. It is normally 2 weeks before classes start and 2 week after they begin. They will not be available for late start classes so order all material at the beginning of each semester. Specific dates for each semester will be communicated via the banner on the Course Materials tab.
What can I use them on? Book Credits can be used on any required, optional, and course materials associated with classes. You can also purchase school supplies like paper, pens, folders, ect. They can also be used towards the purchase of a laptop.
How do I use my Book Credits on a Laptop? All laptop purchases using Book Credits require a form to be filled out. You can do this in person or reach out to us for the digital form. The form shows consent of the purchase and using of the Book Credits. Any laptops become non-refundable after opening. If a student looses their funding for any reason (dropping courses or unenrolling from school) they are responsible for paying NWACC those funds back. Students can use up to $750 towards their laptop, any overage must be paid out of pocket.
What can I not use them on? You cannot use them on NWACC merchandise like clothing or gifts. Along with non-school related technology like gaming computers, video game systems, cell phones, watches, ect. If there are any item not approved the store will cancel them from the order.
What if I want to use them for Best Buy items? If you are wanting a laptop that is over $750 from Best Buy please contact the store first. We will have to manually lower your credits so that the correct overage will appear when placing your online order. We will also send over the form to fill out so that we can process your order faster.
What happens after the window closes? After the deadline the Bookstore sends over the charges report back to the Treasury. They will apply those Book Credit charges onto your accounts and start the reimbursement process for the remaining funds. Contact the Treasury department if you want to know the reimbursement timeline.
